Question:I started again open water swims (2-3 km), which tend to produce a pain in
my right elbow. It seems to come from some tendon here. As Eric said,
tendons are often a problem after 40. Do anybody know about some stretching
I could do? Seen a lot of things about shoulders but not about elbows.
Answer:There's a few stretches you might try.
I suffer from the long term effects ot a dislocated elbow, and these stretches
have helped enormously.
First, take a towel in your hands, and pull your arm across your chest towards
your non-injured elbow. First stretch the entire arm for ten seconds or so, then
repeat bending the elbow in (think archery here).
Next, take the towel in the hand of your "healthy" arm and raise it over your
head, then grab it behind your back with your "injured" hand. Gently lift the
towel higher over your head.
Finally, extend yuor injured arm out in front of you, as if you were reaching
for something at shoulder level, then flex your hand downward as if your wrist
suddenly lost tension, and gently curl your hand back towards your body.
This should cover most of the range of motion of your elbow.
