Question:Have you had your IgA (immunoglobin A
levels) - gut antibodies tested? A common genetic disorder that
causes diabetes is Coeliac Sprue. This is an intollerance to wheat
proteins and often milk proteins. The bodie makes certain antibodies
as a result of a screw balled immune response that among other things
cause mall absorption of calcium and the antibodies can bind to the
Islets of Langerhans and destroy them. I have this disorder
but do not eat wheat or milk and as a result don't suffer from the
described symptoms, but when I was younger just after being diagnosed
my bone density was very low. They have found that about 50% of
chronic coeliac sprue sufferers develop severe osteoporosis, and a
good percentage of those also develop diabetes type 1.
Answer:Sprue (didn't know it was spelled like that) is basically a wheat allergy,
I think. Or at least an inability to digest wheat. I've had two friends
with it, both post-menopausal women. I could be wrong, and there may be a
microscopic critter involved.
