Question:I have this odd pain never experienced before. It is a dull (not aching)
pain only when pressed on, that exists in the gums at the very upper area of
my back molar. The pain is in the very upper gum area way above the tooth
kind of below the cheek bone where the cheek folds. The pain is most evident
if I press on the inner gum upward toward the cheek. There is no inflamed
gum tissue in the area. The pain certainly feels internal.
This is odd to me because I have absolutely no tooth pain where the tooth
shows. I will be going to an Oral Surgeon to examine this later today,
because I think it feels like bone pain. If anyone has an idea of what would
cause this, please tell me what types of mouth ailments can cause what I
explain so I can guide myself to the proper type of dentist and/or
specialist.
Answer:It could be plenty of things, but an abscess--originating in either the gum
or nerve of a nearby tooth is by far the most likely culprit. If this is the
case, unless the appropriate treatment is extraction, you will most likely be
treated by some dentist other than an oral surgeon.
